Ron Irvine Friday, May 5th, 2017 It is with great sadness that the Club has learned of the sudden death on Thursday 4th May of Ron Irvine. Big Ron, as he was known to everyone, was a larger than life character who played for the 1st XI during the period from 1955 to 1974, captaining the team in 1967 and 1968. During his 1st XI career, he scored 1736 as a hard-hitting lower-order batsman, and captured 203 wickets, bowling at a fast-medium pace from quite a height. In recent years, he had taken up umpiring and enjoyed several years on duty round the grounds of the west of Scotland before ill-health forced him to give this up. Members who were at the Club last weekend will be shocked to hear of Ron's passing as he had attended the ex-President's and ex-Captain's function on that day and was in great form throughout. We send our deepest condolences to his widow, Doris, and the rest of his family.

Batting first, Kelburne were dismissed for just 68 in 20.4 overs of a 43 overs per side match, Julian Hulbert and stand-in skipper, Neil Flack both taking 4 for 25. Greenock made really heavy weather of reaching their target and did so with their last men at the wicket, Chris Hempsey, nursing a badly injured thumb, striking the match-winning boundary. Neil Flack top-scored with 27 and Kyle Scrimegour with 14 and Aidan Forrest 11 were the other batsmen in double figures. In a weekend of close results, the Hillend XI were not to be undone, losing their Sunday League fixture with Victoria 2 by just 1 wicket, the visitors scoring 171 for 9 to overtake Hillend's total of 169 all out.
